Call for Volunteers – Scholastic Book Fair at Highview Elementary: Nov. 9th, 13th – 16th

November 9th kicks off one of our favorite fundraising programs of the year: the Scholastic Book Fair at Highview Elementary! The theme this year is Enchanted Forest Book Fair: Let Your Imagination Grow!

This literacy program helps promote reading; exposes our children to a variety of engaging, relevant, and affordable books; and expands our childrens’ personal, classroom, and school libraries. And, every purchase made at the book fair helps to raise money and earn books for our schools.

We are in urgent need of volunteers to assist the third and fourth grade students during their browse and buy days. We are asking all of our Miller and Highview families and PTA members to consider volunteering on any one of the book fair days, even if it’s only for 30 minutes. Volunteering at this event is a very rewarding and easy way to help a child connect with a book and foster his or her interest in reading!

There are a number of ways to sign up, but the most direct way to let us know of your availability is to visit

If you are not able to volunteer for a full 3-hour time slot, add your availability in the note section on the sign up page so we may schedule you accordingly.

Other ways to let us know is to email with the day and time you are available, or send us a message with availability here.

We thank you for your consideration and time!

PS:  If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience one of Scholastic’s book fairs, we guarantee it’s a wonderful experience to be a part of a child’s literary journey!

October Update!

October has been and continues to be a very busy and exciting month for us! Please be sure to scroll all the way down to see a list of upcoming events. This month began with welcoming our newly-elected President, Andrea Hauser. Andrea has been an active member of the Nanuet Elementary PTA and has served on a number of committees as both chair and volunteer and brings great enthusiasm to her new role.

We held two successful meal fundraisers: one with Smashburger, and the other with Luigi O’Grady’s. Thank you to everyone who showed their support by ordering meals to help raise money to benefit our children.

We also appreciate all who purchased catalog items during our Cherrydale fundraiser. Orders have been submitted and will be available for pick up in November. Pick up date and location will be posted at a later time.

Last week our Carousel Cakes order form went home in backpacks. Orders can also be placed in our Shop where you can see pictures and read descriptions of the cakes and pies. Submit orders by the November 9th due date to guarantee delivery in time for Thanksgiving!

On Friday, author Bruce Hale visited George W. Miller and presented to the K – 2 students. His inspiring and humorous talks had everyone engaged and laughing. Thank you to the Literacy Committee volunteers, Ms. Hink, Ms. Quartironi, and Ms. Tidd for all the preparations made ahead of his visit. And, of course, thank you to Bruce Hale!

Our Halloween Happening for Highview students is this Friday, October 26th from 7 pm – 9 pm. Entertainment includes DJ, Mummy Room, and Outragehiss Pets! Snacks will be provided. Parents, please note, this is a drop off event. We are still looking for donations of small bottled water and nut-free snacks. Donations may be dropped off at Highview’s main office by October 24th.

School picture retakes and sibling photos are scheduled for this Monday, October 29th. Retakes and second grade classes that did not have their class photo taken in September will have them taken during school hours. For retakes, please be sure to send in the purchased photo package with your child. Sibling photos are by appointment only and will take place in the music room at Highview between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm. At this time all sessions are booked.

Free shipping for Spiritwear purchased online has been extended to October 31st! Don’t forget to place an order before our next district-wide Spirit Day (the first Friday of every month) and enter TRICK10 at checkout.

Highview’s Scholastic Book Fair is on the calendar for November 9th, 13th – 16th.  This year’s theme is Enchanted Forest Book Fair: Let Your Imagination Grow! We are in need of volunteers to help during that week. If interested in helping out any one of those days to set up, restock, or assist students, you may sign up here:

And finally, we ask that you mark your calendar for our biggest fundraiser of the year: Casino Knight! This year it will be on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Elks Lodge. We’ve been hard at work securing many fantastic and fun prizes to be awarded that night. You will not want to miss it! Stay tuned for more details!

We want to thank everyone for their continued support. Programs and events like Author Visits, Halloween Happening, and the Scholastic Book Fair would not be possible without the help of our volunteers and generosity of our members and supporters. Your involvement and contributions really make a difference in our childrens’ educational experience. And, please remember to check your school’s digital backpack emails and texts every Friday for the latest school and PTA flyers to stay informed of what’s happening in our schools and community!
